Seen at the community bulletin board ...
Stopping in at one of the two local grocery stores the other day, I glanced at the community bulletin board inside the door and found the following pinned to it, written in orange and green crayon: "Wanted: female german shepard to mate with my male shepard." (And a phone number.)

Re: Seen at the community bulletin board ...
Wait till you hear this! I was at the vet yesterday getting Gnash's 1 year hip/elbow x-rays. On the way out a couple started talking about how good looking and well mammered Gnash was (they did not know that he was still mostly knocked out). They had brought their lab in to the vet and had a "beautiful" GSD female at home that they wanted Gnash to breed and offered me to follow them as she was in heat and that I could keep a puppy. It took me a while to absorb that such people exist everywhere!

I don't know why I am shocked, but both counts are sad. Maybe you should hook the grocery store people up with Gnash's vet people

Wow, people are hilariously ridiculous! I was once at the park with Zeus when a lady pulls her car up to us and asked me if her male german shepherd could mate with my "female"! I told her I don't think "HE" would like that.

Re: Seen at the community bulletin board ...
I actually had a phone call from a guy looking for a female so he could breed his male. A friend of mine who has an American showline was at the grocery store waiting in the parking lot with her dog, and he approached her. She had the nerve to give him my #! I asked him if his dog had his hips/elbows done, what lines was he, what titles did his dog have, he didn't know what I was even talking about, he said working lines as all GSD's are workers and he was AKC registered! That made him breedworthy. I let him know no reputable breeder would look at using his dog without health clearances, so I couldn't help him & encourage him to learn more about the breed. I think he posted an ad on CL after that.

Re: Seen at the community bulletin board ...
It's so frustrating... DH had our dogs outside playing with them one day and these people pulled in our driveway. They said they had a black GSD and wanted to know if we would want to breed our black one with theirs. It's too bad I wasn't home- I probably would have given them the "responsible breeding" speech. DH just said no and that we have our dogs spayed and neutered.

Re: Seen at the community bulletin board ...
i think you should write on the note, "German Shepherd" and put a thin line through Shepard. use a green or orange crayon if possible.

Re: Seen at the community bulletin board ...
I had someone ask if we were going to breed Max because he has beautiful markings. We said no and explained why. And they said to me "so, But you could make a lot of money on the pups" We just walked away saying we were not irresponsible enough to breed a dog with issues and it's not fair to pass that on to dog and future owners.

Re: Seen at the community bulletin board ...
I've been asked about 4 times if I would be breeding Buffy and she is only 6 months old! They said that they liked her fuzzy/fluffy look and wanted to see what the puppies would look like when bred with their dogs. I gave the three with GSDs the "we're not breeding her" and "responsible breeding" speeches and walked away. The fourth had a yellow lab and I just shook my head in resignation as I walked away. Makes me glad that we will be having spayed after this current obedience class set is done.

Re: Seen at the community bulletin board ...
I have had a couple people ask where I got the boys from and a couple when I am going to breed them. One even saying he would wait however long he had to for a puppy. I told him he would be waiting forever. I too have seen the ads on CL for those wanting a rendezvous with other GSDs. I wrote to one person with "the list" and all she could say was she had papers. I guess those papers are magic!

Re: Seen at the community bulletin board ...
I was in an agility class with a little cutie pie shepherd girl that Murphy was all mucking up to. I asked her where she got her and she said the town in which my breeder lives. I asked if it was her and she said "no" that it was from a guy who owns an autobody shop. I spoke with my breeder and she said that the autobody shop guy had been trying to get his bitch bred by one of her males and she said "no way" and she guesses someone finally broke down or whatever. The pup was as sweet as the day is long and she's in a loving good home now but it's still not everything. You want health testing. I know my breeder is a real stickler for hips/elbows and I was not the least suprised Murphy's came back "good". I get lots of compliments and some "jokes" that he'd make some good pups-that of which I'm sure but...ha...no. His gorgeous daddy can go and make some more and they'll look a lot like him!

Re: Seen at the community bulletin board ...
I think a great response to those admiring your beauties is to let them know the kennel/breeders name where your pup came from. I am always one to ask that question, just to satisfy my curiosity. But of course most are in it thinking they can make $ off putting two dogs together...
